CG Motion Graphic Demo 2015

A short demo showing what can be made with an old laptop, a cheap camera (Canon Legria) and 3DS Max, Mandelbulb, Sony Vegas software. I've produced motion graphics for TVC and features but experience sheer joy when footage is backed with green screen. On set I'll see glass bottles backed in green and want to say 'I know how to distort the keyed footage there' - this says the same thing, just better.

Almost all original footage is my own, some scenes are courtesy Jason Lava Smith, Props Master, Cape Town. I made the music myself with FL Studio, some samples are from DJ Toolkit Stock. Download my music free from SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/psycandy-2

The fractals here are all my own formulas, sometimes rendered in 360° spherical, which provides a full 3D motion fractal environment in Max. Other spherical maps I shot here in Cape Town with an EOS 350D and hand-stitched to make the environment.

The point of HDRi environments is that it's a shortcut to a believeable 3D scene. Combine with object / surface libraries and you have the means to build any 3D scene in a fraction of the time it would ordinarily take. You can have any environment you choose - NASA has HDRi planetary maps - even the standard map of the Earth is a spherical map - so this is a great technique that's easy to master and yields quality results quickly. Download my maps free from my site or my meshes (.3ds, .max or .obj) from The Free 3D Models site: TF3DM.com/ideastudio

For all 3D artists out there - you know the ultra-real CG is par for the course. To really make your mark requires no more than your own style and technique, and hopefully this video adds a little more to your personal skill set. I think it's more fun than you can shake a stick at. Go!
