Freak accident: Woman's head scalped by electric drill in notifying mishap

A 27-year-old Czech woman, Petra Novotna, miracally survived a horrific accident in which her scalp, half her face and eyelids were ripped clean off her head by a power tool a month ago, the Central European News agency reports.

Novotna, a mother of four and volunteer firewoman, was reportedly using an electric drill when strands from her ponytail became entangled in the running device.
All of a sudden, the whizzing drill bit caught her hair, jerking her forward violently, tearing the skin from her head, from the top of her nose to the back of her skull. She began to run, but then saw her bloody scalp lying on the floor, not where it should be."
Novotna was rushed to the University Hospital of Vinohrady in Prague in a severe condition and immediately underwent a nine-hour operation. Surgeons took an eight to ten-centimetre-long vascular grafts from the her arms and legs and transplanted them to her skin to restore her scalp.
The surgery was successful, and Novotna is now mostly recovered and able to smile again.
