Murder suicide: Drug addict attempts to kill family, father tries to kill his own son before he can

In New Taipei City, a 72 year old father attempted to kill his 43 year old son.
The son had been a drug addict ever since he was 17 years old and after 26 years of chemical abuse he’d pretty much fried his mental circuits. He would often have bouts of hysteria and attempt to suffocate his entire family in the middle of the night.
It was for this reason that his father would sleep on the couch, to make sure his son didn’t endanger himself or the rest of the family, but after four days without sleep the old man decided he’d had enough.
He attacked his son with a meat cleaver, chopping at the back of his head several times.
But, because of his age he simply lacked the strength to do more than cause a few flesh wounds to his son.
When the police arrested him his son tried to claim the wounds were self-inflicted.
A suicide note left by the father explained his actions. He said he could no longer continue to watch over his son and didn’t know how else to help him, so he’d decided to kill his son and then himself. The father said he felt responsible for ruining his son’s life by spoiling him and always giving him money even when he knew his son was spending the money on drugs. He said it was the only way he could protect the rest of his family.
But now that he’s in jail, who’s going to stop his son from killing the remainder of his family in their sleep?
