CIA torture report: rectal feeding, waterboarding among techniques used on suspected terrorists

In anticipation of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s release of the executive summary of it’s report on the CIA’s brutal interrogation practices, the U.S. increased security at American facilities around the world.

The executive summary, released Tuesday morning, details CIA interrogation techniques used on at least 119 suspected terrorists following the 9/11 attacks.
Some detainees were interrogated using methods such as waterboarding, which sees interrogators repeatedly pour water onto cloth or cellophane placed over a subject’s face in order to simulate the sensation of drowning.

Other detailed interrogation techniques include mock executions, where a suspect is made believe that their death is imminent or that a detainee in neighboring cell has been killed.

Some subjects were also deprived of sleep and kept awake for as long as 180 hours, usually in standing or in stress positions, and at times in the nude and with their hands shackled above their heads. Loud music, controlling of darkness and light and slapping were also used to cause sleep deprivation, the report says.

Exposure to cold and cold showers were also used.

At least five detainees were also subjected to rectal feeding, in which food is fed through a rectal tube, as well as rectal hydration.

The scathing report also suggests the CIA never compiled an accurate list of which subjects were detained and subjected to these interrogations techniques.
