Frog smoothies: Peruvians drink liquidized Lake Titicaca frogs to help them get their mojo back
  • 9 years ago
In Peru, frogs from Lake Titicaca are the main ingredient in a smoothie that is said to cure asthma, bronchitis, sluggishness and a low libido.

The green drink is sold at juice stands in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

To make the drink, you grab a frog and then beat it to death on the counter.

Peel the skin off and drop it into a blender along with carrots, the indigenous maca root and honey.

The vendor swears that frog juice "is good for anaemia, bronchitis, bones, the brain, fatigue, stress."

However, according to local doctors there is no scientific evidence that frog juice is in any way beneficial.

Even still, it is a popular supplement for many people in remote areas of the country.
