Head on collision: A Texas man slams into a man on a horse at night killing himself and the animal

A driver died Sunday night when he slammed into a horse, and then hit a pole and a fence in northwest Houston, killing the animal.
Around 8 p.m. in the Acres Home area a red Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound on the 900 block of West Little York near Knox street.
The driver of the SUV, whose name was not released, failed to control his speed and rammed into a man riding a horse who also was headed in the same direction.
The vehicle hit the animal and dragged it about a 100 feet before smashing into a chain-link metal fence and then a wooden pole.
The rider was thrown from the horses back before being dragged by the SUV.
The animal died at the scene and the two men were rushed to two different hospitals.
The SUV driver, died at LBJ General Hospital, but the horse rider is currently recovering at Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
