Indiana bus crash: stolen 1999 Ford Mustang crashes into greyhound bus, killing suspected car thief

A suspected car thief died after a head-on collision with a Greyhound bus on an Indiana highway Sunday morning (July 13), according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

The accident happened at around 7:00 a.m along Interstate 70 near Richmond. Authorities said Philip Lloyd, a Richmond resident, stole a 1999 Ford Mustang from a nearby truck stop just before the crash. However, police refused to publicize his age.

For unknown reasons, the mustang headed west on an eastbound lane and collided with the Greyhound bus, which was carrying 23 passengers from St. Louis, Missouri to New York City.

Lloyd was killed in the crash, which also injured 19 people on the bus. Most of the wounded only suffered from minor injuries, but the bus driver was airlifted to a medical center in Indianapolis, about 70 miles from the crash site.

The eastbound lanes reopened to traffic after 10:30 a.m.
