Soccer ref punched to death: On-field assault kills Michigan football referee

John Bieniewicz, age 44, of Westland, Michigan, was refereeing a soccer match in Livonia.
The father of two worked as the lead medical assistant in the Pediatric Chronic Dialysis unit at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and refereed on the side.
During the match on Sunday, Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad, aged 36, of Dearborn, Michigan, didn't like how Bieniewicz was calling the game.
He came up and sucker-punched Bieniewicz to the head, who then dropped unconscious to the ground.
At hospital, Bieniewicz has been declared dead. He is being kept on a ventilator until his organs can be harvested and donated through Gift of Life.
Saad was arraigned Monday. He received a felony charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
