One Egyptian actress is in very hot water after having described a rape victim as "lucky" after the newly sworn-in president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi paid her a visit at hospital.
The 19-year-old university student was sexually assaulted by a throng of seven men during the president's inauguration ceremony at Cairo's Tahrir Square on Sunday. The entire atrocity was videotaped as the victim was fully stripped and sexually attacked by the gang.
After the president visited the victim, 49-year-old Egyptian actress Ghada Abdel Razek tweeted a picture from the president's visit with the comment, "Yesterday when we saw our respectable President [visiting the teen in hospital] we all said: 'how lucky is that woman?'" adding "can't anyone harass us too?"
Amid public sympathy, her tweet was swiftly condemned by social media users, calling her comment "out of place". However, some fans backed the older woman, insisting that she was "just kidding."
