50 Peacocks killed in California neighborhood, police search for clues to nab bird butcher

Over the past two years, at least 50 peacocks have been killed in the Rolling Hills Estates community in Southern California, police reported.
At a neighborhood meeting, the community was split on how to resolve the bird issue. Some residents want the peacocks trained, while others want them removed.
While the birds certainly look beautiful, they've become a nuisance to some residents. According to reports, the peacocks have damaged roofs and even peck cars, mistaking their own reflection for a rival bird.
"The population just grows and people don't like them in their area," Andy Clark, the Rolling Hills Estates community services director told NBC Los Angeles.
Some of the peacocks were poisoned, while others were shot with a pellet gun and a crossbow.
Using a weapon to intentionally kill a peacock is a felony in California, and local police have launched an investigation to track down the bird butcher. If convicted the killer could face up to three years in prison for each bird killed.
