There's only a couple days left to go until the 2014 World Cup opens in Brazil, but with soccer fans streaming into the country, Brazil's myriad problems only seem to be getting worse.

The opening ceremony is on Thursday in Sao Paolo, but metro workers there are still on strike for higher pay, leaving tourists to contend with the city's world class stickup artists as they traipse about on foot.

What's worse, the games' main stadium, Itaquerao in Sao Paulo, hasn't got all its seats yet while officials run weight stress tests. It's probably a good idea to let them finish, as the stadium's already had one fatal accident when some huge crossbeams collapsed during construction. Other stadiums around Brazil are in worse shape than that, with some lacking even a finished road or subway leading to the location. Don't ask about the toilets.

In spite of the problems, Brazilians are still excited for the opening of the World Cup, where a Brazil-designed bionic suit will help a paralyzed teen kick the opening ball. For her sake, and that of whoever's on the receiving end of that ball, lets just hope the suit is better built than Brazil's stadiums.
