The Chinese girl, who is a student was dragged on the floor by the customs official inside Manila International's Terminal 3. But then she was able to get up and beat him with a handbag. The customs official slapped her across the face while she tried to fish for something in the handbag to use as a weapon. Another female customs official passed by and witnessed the incident, but decided she wanted none of it and carried on her way. The Chinese girl was later deported from the country.

Chiu Chun, the consul general of China in Philippine went to the bureau of immigration the next day to demand a thorough investigation into the affair.

The kerfuffle comes against the backdrop of the kidnapping of a Chinese national by five Filipino gunmen. A 34-year-old Chinese fish farm manager was kidnapped in the Southern PHilippines and taken to Sibutu Island. Malaysian police tried to intercept the gunmen but failed to catch them, however shots were fired.

The consulate-general of China in Kuching requested that Malaysian authorities try to save the hostage.
