High on marijuana: Hallucinating man Richard Kirk kills wife after 911 call and slow police response

Denver woman Kristine Kirk was killed by her husband while she was on the phone with 911 dispatchers. Police arrived two minutes after Richard Kirk shot her in the head Monday night.
She made the call to 911 at 9:32 p.m. Kristine told dispatchers that her husband was "talking about the end of the world" and wanted Kristine "to shoot him." She said he was "hallucinating" after "eating a marijuana cookie" and his behavior was scaring their three sons.
She told the dispatcher that there was gun in the house but it was locked in a safe. At 9:45 p.m. the dispatcher recorded Kristine saying that her husband had retrieved the gun from the safe. A scream and gunshot followed, prompting the dispatcher to issue a code 10.
Police arrived at the Kirk home at 9:47, 13 minutes after the 911 call. They found Kristine dead from a gunshot wound to the head and arrested her husband as the suspected murderer. While in the police car, Richard confessed to killing his wife without being questioned.
Denver police are investigating the response time of police as well as the role that marijuana may have played in the killing.
