A 35-year-old man was arrested without warrant on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder at a pub in Nara. The accused man, Kaoru Yamabe, is facing charges for killing a 23-year-old man who tried to break up a fight between Yamabe and another man.

Yamabe reportedly ran a home business in Tawaramoto, Nara.

The victim was drinking alone in the pub in the early hours of March 2, when he saw Yamabe and another man engaged in a conflict. The victim intervened to calm them.

According to police, Yamabe said the intervention made him feel ridiculed. Yamabe allegedly then stabbed the victim in the abdomen just outside the pub. He fled the scene of the crime, but eventually turned himself into police at Nara Station.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The cops are treating the case as a murder. Yamabe confessed to the crime, saying that the victim had made him feel stupid. He said his rage drove him to stab the man.
