Thai hospital collapse kills at least 11

A hospital building under construction in Samut Prakan province's Bang Phli district in Thailand collapsed on Tuesday (February 25), killing at least 11 people and injuring 16 more.

According to CNN, about 27 workers were on their lunch breaks at the time of the accident. The structure that fell on them was designed as an elevated corridor linking two buildings, measuring 20 metres wide and 15 metres long, the Nation reported.

The workers were working on a hospital expansion project for the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital. According to the Nation, a hospital statement claimed that cement structure in an elevator shaft subsided for an unknown reason, causing the accident.

Six victims died at the scene while others succumed to their injuries at the hospital, the Nation reported. An investigation into the accident has been launched by the authorities.
