Political Cinema Sparks Debate at Argentine Film Festival

Actors, producers and activists gathered in Buenos Aires on Thursday for the Fifth International Political Cinema Film Festival. Film makers from 34 countries will participate and around 130 movies will be shown. Some of the films are explicitly political and others have an underlying political content. The jury is made up of actors, film makers and politicians who establish their own criteria for evaluating the films. The productions that question society and ways of life may spark debate or create consciousness about certain topics, while others impart knowledge and others promote reflection. The festival shows that cinema is much bigger than pure entertainment. Laureano Ponce reports from Buenos Aires for teleSUR
