In March 1960, Elvis Presley packed his kit-bag and journeyed home from Germany having completed his two years National Service.

Throughout this period, he had carefully planned and prepared the music he would record upon his return to the RCA Studios in Nashville. He would boldly move away from rock 'n' roll and embrace pop, ballads and blues.

He taped his first post-army album in Nashville while the city was steeped in racial tension due to the "Sit-Ins".

A life-long advocate of black culture and a quiet but consistent supporter of civil rights**, Elvis packed the LP with fabulous songs from all parts of the musical spectrum, closing the sessions and the album with a stunning blues from Lowell Fulson, with whom he'd played in the 1950s.

The finished album stands as one of Presley's finest achievements and was recorded with a wonderful selection of mega-hit singles, none of which were included on the LP.

A glorious statement of musical and cultural equality from a voice that had no equal at that time ...
