Surat: While rains do make the weather pleasant, they also bring in misery for people, thanks to the outdated and poor drainage system across city which causes flooding and water logging in low lying areas. Water-logged streets and by-lanes in residential localities are an open invitation for water borne diseases. Accumulated water also threatens to contaminate drinking water sources, which can lead to outbreak of diarrhoea and jaundice. As many as 300 cases of diarrhoea, vomiting and jaundice are reported in Surat's Puna village. After two days, there is steady rise in the cases which has raised bunch of question on civic authorities.
