Given the close relationships people have with their smartphones, it shouldn’t be too surprising that, according to researchers, the devices know when their owners are depressed.

Given the close relationship people have with their smartphones, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the way owners use their devices can indicate mental health issues.

Scientists at Northwestern University found that phones can reliably track some of the telltale behaviors of depressed people.

Those include frequent phone use, going to fewer places, and spending a lot of time at home.

The team discovered this through a study involving 28 subjects between the ages of 19 and 58.
