Statistics Show Japan’s Elderly Are Bigger Lawbreakers Than Its Juveniles

In the first 6 months of 2015, police in Japan attended to more crimes committed by elderly people than they did offenses perpetrated by juveniles.

In the first 6 months of 2015, police in Japan responded to more crimes committed by elderly people than they did offenses perpetrated by juveniles. 

Action was taken against over 23,000 individuals over the age of 65, and just under 20 thousand whose ages fell in the 14 to 19 range. 

It’s the first time the elderly have surpassed the youths in criminal activity since age-related statistics began being tracked in 1989. 

Overall, crime in Japan is down, with teens amongst the groups where decline is evident.
