The strategy of leaving Ashley on the ledge for a little bit was something I came up with when I had trouble beating Pro mode for the first time on the Gamecube version. The first wave of enemies will be distracted by her presence and gives you free time to defeat them all. A ganado will eventually attempt to kidnap her but he will have to jump down after he picks her up. You can then go over and knife him to release Ashley.
