Every Easter Monday, a gruelling race is held at the village of Hedley on the Hill in rural Northumberland. Competitors in teams of three must carry an empty 9 gallon beer barrel over a one and a half mile course through fields and up a steep hill. The finishing line is chalked on the road outside The Feathers Public House and the winners receive a full 9 gallon keg of real ale!
