Mike Mitchell is quietly having an excellent season

Last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers broke from tradition by offering a large chunk of money to free agent S Mike Mitchell.
The former Carolina Panther seemed to be a perfect fit in Pittsburgh; a coverage safety with a real mean streak and a proclivity for laying bone-jarring tackles.
The 2014 season wasn’t a disaster, but it was disappointing after a reportedly injured-riddled Mitchell failed to produce encouraging results.
Things have been much different so far in 2015.
Mitchell has yet to produce the crowd pleasing tangible results like interceptions or forced fumbles, but his coverage grades stack up with the best safeties in the league.
Mitchell’s coverage grade is 3.3, the fifth-best total in the league and his 2.2 rush grade is No. 13, better than T.J. McDonald and Earl Thomas.
