SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — More information has surfaced about the events leading up to the San Bernardino shooting on December 2, an attack that claimed the lives of 14 people and left 21 others wounded.

On the morning of the shooting, Syed Rizwan Farook and wife Tashfeen Malik dropped off their 6-month old daughter with Malik’s mother. They told her they were going to a doctor’s appointment, but were actually going to the Inland Regional Center to carry out the attacks.

Malik’s mother said she became worried when she heard news of the shootings and tried calling the couple, to no answer.

Farook and Malik fired at least 65 bullets during the assault. Their motive for the attack still isn’t clear, but police speculate the couple had planned to cause more harm. A toy car strapped with three pipe bombs was found in the building,

In the couple’s getaway car, police found the remote control for the toy car, a pair of .223 caliber assault rifles with 114 rounds of bullets, and two 9 mm semi-automatic pistols with 200 rounds of bullets.

After searching their Redlands home, police uncovered 2500 more rounds for the rifles are 2000 more rounds for the handguns, along with 12 pipe bombs and ingredients to make more explosives.

With so much ammunition stored, police say the attack was obviously pre-planned,
and that the couple had the means to pull off another attack had they not been intercepted.
