San Bernardino killers turned radical before rise of ISIS, says the FBI

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA— Muslim couple behind the San Bernardino massacre may have become radicalized in 2013. The FBI also revealed plans of a 2012 attack that never came to be.
Investigators believe Tashfeen Malik and Syed Farook began plotting an attack in 2013, prior the rise of the Islamic State group in 2014. Additionally, unfinished pipe bombs and other explosives found at the couple's home have lead investigators to believe they planned future attacks, the New York Times reported.
According to the Times, Farook reportedly planned an attack with his neighbor Enrique Marquez in 2012 but the two never executed the plan. Marquez, a muslim convert, bought two of the four weapons used in last Wednesday's shooting. Authorities haven't charged Marquez with a crime. He checked himself into a mental health facility following news of the shooting.
Farook and Tashfeen met during the Hajj pilgrimage in 2013 in Saudi Arabia and were later married by telephone. Officials are investigating whether Tashfeen planned on carrying out an act of terror in the United States when she applied for her visa in 2014, the New York Times reported.
