Padahastasana is a form of yoga pose, which aids in maintaining a steady posture and improves the muscles and nerves in the back. It is an inverted asana where the hands are stretched down to hold the feet.

History :

This is the eleventh pose in the Hatha Yoga form of yogasana. It is an ancient form of asana practised over the years.

Benefits :

It helps in stretching the muscles of the hamstrings in the back of the legs.
This yoga form helps in massaging the internal organs like the digestive system.
It helps to relieve one of problems like constipation, sciatica and energizes the nervous system.
Improves supply of blood to the brain and removes extra fat from the abdomen.
Decreases fatigue or inertia and improves the overall system of the body.

Technique :

Stand erect bringing your legs close together.
Take in air and lift the arms straight above such that the biceps touch the ears.
Now breather out air and bend forward from the waist.
The back should be straight and the legs should be kept straight.
The weight of the body should be borne by the heels
Put the hands on the ground and interlock the fingers around the toes.
Hold for five seconds and then increase it to one full minute.

Caution :

Those suffering from high blood pressure, giddiness, nausea, and vertigo should not perform this asana or they can perform under proper guidance.
