PONTIAC, MICHIGAN — A deputy in Oakland County, Michigan, almost lost his leg Friday afternoon during a police chase.

Deputies on the Sheriff's Directed Patrol Unit tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle, but when the driver ignored it, a chase ensued. A second traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect's car continued its run, until a PIT Maneuver was deployed, the vehicle disabled and the chase stopped.

At that point, the 21-year-old suspect fled from the vehicle on foot, leaving it in drive, while at the same time one of the deputies exited his vehicle, Fox News reported. The suspect's car ended up coming after the deputy and pinning him against his own car, almost taking his leg.

According to the Oakland Press, other deputies managed to block the car from going into the intersection, while the injured officer was transported to McLaren Hospital and treated for a leg injury.

The suspect ran away but was caught soon after and arrested less than a block from the scene. For now, he's facing fleeing and eluding charges.

The deputy will spend a few days recovering.
