Bush fires in Sydney part of anti-bushfire strategy

Footage of a large plume of smoke rising above North Head in Sydney, Australia.

The video, filmed yesterday, reportedly shows what is known as a burn-off, which the National Parks and Wildlife Service has been conducting in conjunction with fire service for "hazard-reduction".

The technique is designed to reduce the fuel supply in a controlled way so nearby properties and the local penguin population are protected from future wildfire.
