Chicago man allegedly choked girl, 8, unconscious in restaurant toilet

CHICAGO — An 8-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after a man allegedly choked her unconscious in the bathroom of a restaurant last Saturday.
Police said the child went to the bathroom at Jason's Deli in Chicago's South Loop district, when suspect Reese Hartstirn, 33, entered not long after, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Hartstirn allegedly began choking the girl, who screamed before falling unconscious. The girl's mother reportedly heard her daughter's screams and rushed to save her from the alleged attack.
Other diners helped restrain Hartstirn until police arrived, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Hartstirn was charged with felony counts of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery to a child under 13.
The girl was transported to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment. No information about her condition has been released.
