ADHD Appears In Adulthood

When thinking about signs of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, people generally imagine a kid who can’t sit still in school. However, this may not actually be the case. A new study suggests that for some, ADHD symptoms may not appear until young adulthood. Researchers from King’s College London examined about 2,200 twins ages 5, 7, 10, and 12 through mother and instructor reports. Once the twins reached 18, they were interviewed and assessed for ADHD. Of those who were exhibiting ADHD symptoms at 18, 70% had not tested positive for the disorder during childhood. This is one of the first studies to really examine late-onset ADHD.
