A heartwarming video has emerged of police officers unlocking a car to rescue a puppy on a hot day.

The footage, shot last week in Shawnee, KS, USA, captures the moment local police used a rod to unlock the car door and free the the little dog.

The filmer can be heard explaining that the temperature is around 32C and that the dog was in the car for at least 40 minutes.

The dog was eventually freed and given water.
