Verizon is buying Yahoo, which will boost AOL's internet business, bought last year for $4.4 billion, by giving it access to Yahoo's advertising technology tools, such as a search, mail and messenger. Yahoo announced in February that it was looking at "strategic alternatives" for its core internet business. Verizon Communications said it had agreed to buy Yahoo's core internet business for $4.83 billion in cash.  The sale does not include Yahoo's cash, its shares in Alibaba, its shares in Yahoo Japan, Yahoo's convertible notes, and other non-core patents.
