Garrett Kato: I am a singer songwriter from Byron Bay Australia. I used to live in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada and sometimes I miss the cold winters of the west coast of Canada. I'm a massive music fan and drug dealer of sweet folk country tunes.
The Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival, held over the last two weekends in August, will be bursting with Japanese culture – all set amongst the beautiful Auburn Botanic Gardens and flowering cherry blossoms.
The Kyoto Stage (Peacock Gallery lawns) will host traditional Japanese performances such as sumo wrestling, ikebana presentations and taiko performances.
The Harajuku Stage (Botanic Gardens, Hanami picnic area) will host Japanese turntablist DJ Naiki, rising indie folk favourite Garrett Kato, and The Voice’s Kiyomi Vella, as well as Noriko Tadano (direct from a recent tour of Japan) and Swordshapes ft Yuux, plus J-pop, karaoke and hula hoop workshops.
Food delights will include: Sashimi and noodles from the team behind Sydney’s Masuya Japanese restaurant; Syoku Samurai serving Takoyaki balls; Pork belly buns and Japanese themed burgers by Tsuru and J-burger; Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes) from emerging catering crew Modern Yaki.
Entry is free to LGA locals, children under 16 and people in cosplay and kimono costumes. A free shuttle bus will operate between Auburn Station and Botanic Gardens from 9am to 4.30pm.
