The fear of God stems from the fear of losing God's appreciation

ADNAN OKTAR: "Is God to be loved or to be feared?" These people interpret the fear of God as the fear of guns or blades. The fear of God means to refrain from displeasing God, losing His appreciation. God might plague you with troubles, but the worst thing here is that you fall from His grace. So what if you go through troubles when you still have the appreciation of God? Would it upset you? It wouldn't; on the contrary, you would be overjoyed. As long as God loves you, it does not matter if you are dead or severely injured, does it? Otherwise, what is the point? For example, a person dies a gruesome death and falls martyr for the sake of God. What is more frightening; dying horribly? No, it is losing the appreciation of God. Indeed. When God loves you, even if your body is being scorched in hell, your heart will be at peace. What people do not understand here is that it is not the hellfire that should frighten you; it should be losing the intimacy of God. They simply think of it as fearing from the hellfire. What is actually disastrous here is forever losing the affection of God.

"Let rocks rain down on me, I don't mind as long as it is for God" the saying goes. It would be wonderful. However, if you lose the affection of the Friend, you will suffer the true misery.
