Cuckold penguin loses wife to male rival in bloody fight

WORLD — National Geographic tweeted a brutal video on Sunday that singlehandedly destroyed all our warm fuzzies from Happy Feet. Turns out penguins are no more monogamous or loyal than the rest of us, and are entrenched in so much drama it’s practically the Real Housewives of Antarctica.
The video opens by showing penguin breeding grounds. A narrator says “life here is good,” before introducing a male penguin who suddenly finds his burrow and wife being invaded by another penguin.
A fight breaks out between the husband and the homewrecker, who use their wings to club each other. The fight, however, ends in a stand off. Both males call out to the female to let her choose the winner.
Ultimately, the wife sides with the homewrecker, and he and his lover trudge toward the burrow. The cuckold follows them, and initiates another fight with the homewrecker. The two battle once more, this time using their beaks, which ends bloody.
The husband is forced out of the burrow, and attempts another call to his wife, who’s “got no time for losers” according to the narrator. Suffice to say, the husband penguin was left homeless, betrayed, and injured.
The brutal fight spread through Twitter like wildfire, being retweeted more than 230,000 times. Netizens were shocked at the graphic video, likening it to real-life relationship drama, and sided firmly with the husband.
