Paul Ryan’s relationship with Donald Trump has not always been smooth, but the House Speaker sounds like he’s getting on board with the new president-elect by repeating his campaign slogan.
Politico reports that Ryan appeared with Trump, Melania, and Mike Pence at a brief conference with reporters on Thursday.
Ryan is quoted as saying, “Let me just say how excited we are about these opportunities for the country. We had a fantastic, productive meeting about getting to work, rolling up our sleeves, and going to work for the American people.”
He continued by stating, “Donald Trump had one of the most impressive victories we’ve ever seen, and we’re gonna turn that victory into progress for the American people. And we are now talking about how we’re going to hit the ground running to make sure that we can get this country turned around and make America great again.”
Ryan’s words represent a seeming shift in his position towards Trump; during the presidential campaign, the House Speaker had distanced himself after a tape emerged of the businessman making lewd comments about women.
