Misplaced Islamophobia: hiker wearing bandana finds car broken into and anti-Islam note

FREMONT, CALIFORNIA — A woman going for a hike in California was the victim of another Trump-inspired hate crime, after she was seen putting on a bandana to cover her head from the sun.

On November 16, Nicky Pancholy, 41, was on a peace hike to the top of Mission Peak in Fremont, something she committed to doing for 65 days following the results of the U.S. election. Nicky suffers from lupus, and so to protect herself from the sun, she wrapped a bandana around her head. An unknown person nearby spotted her doing it, and must have also seen her exit her vehicle.

While she was gone, Nicky’s car was broken into. Her rear windows were smashed, and her purse stolen. When Nicky returned to her car, she found her damaged vehicle, with a hateful note left on the dashboard that read “Hijab wearing Bitch. This is our nation now. GET THE FUCK OUT.”

Nicky is not muslim, but in the eyes of the nasty, she is as much an other as anyone. The vandalizing thief is being sought after by police, as reports of hate crimes in the U.S. keep flooding in.
