Japanese prime minister plans to visit Pearl Harbor before the New Year

Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is planning on visiting Pearl Harbor on Dec. 26-27. He will be joined by President Obama. The visit, meant to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, will be the first time a Japanese leader has visited the site. President Obama previously visited Hiroshima with the prime minister earlier this year, sparking questions as to whether the prime minister would visit the site of the US attacks. Though both sides have long been allies, President Obama and Prime Minister Abe view this as an opportunity to bring a final sense of closure to both sides.
