Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is wrapping up his long Congressional career, and he is doing so on a hopeful note.
In an interview with Rachel Martin of NPR’s ‘Morning Edition,’ Reid said President-elect Trump is, “...not as bad as I thought he would be.”
He continued, “We heard from Trump that one of the first things he was going to do is repeal [the Dreamers] executive order. In an interview he had with Time magazine in the last day or two, he said, ‘Nah, I'm not going to do that’ — those young people deserve to stay here. He's not going to prosecute Hillary Clinton criminally, as he said he would do. Obviously he didn't believe in all of the stuff he said — which is a step in the right direction.”
Reid also noted he is, “...hopeful that [Trump] will lessen his rhetoric and work toward a safer, more productive America.”
The expression of positivity about the incoming administration is a significant change from Reid’s previous outlook, when he repeatedly lashed out at Trump.
Several weeks ago, Reid issued a statement, which read in part, "If Trump wants to roll back the tide of hate he unleashed, he has a tremendous amount of work to do and he must begin immediately.”
