Poorna, the daughter of a diplomat had to deal with an alcoholic father. If not the domestic abuse, she later suffered sexual abuse at the hands of a family friend who molested her at the age of 9. Poorna in a video, opened up about her experiences dealing with domestic violence as well sexual abuse. She also talks about being covered in bruises and feeling helpless as there wasn't much to do about it, since the treatment meted out to her was by people close to her.
Deepika Padukone it seems has given a voice to women to come out and speak about derogatory treatment towards them. Before Poorna, Kalki Koechlin and more recently Somy Ali had spoken about being sexually abused.
