Amitabh Bachchan: 'Media should understand the sensitivity of the moment, when someone is ill'

Amitabh Bachchan, who's been hospitalised quite a few times in the past few years, recently narrated how it feels to be surrounded by the media when a celebrity is not well and heading towards the hospital. At a recent event, while talking about how the media responds when a celeb is ill, Bachchan Senior said, ''I feel it's a very sensitive moment when someone is ill. While I should respect a journalist's right, in the freedom of expression that he has, sometimes the sensitivity of the moment and the emotions of the people that are involved needs to be understood.'' ''There have been many occasions, unfortunately, where I had to be taken to the hospital. What happens is that sometimes it takes me almost 20 minutes to come out of the ambulance and to be taken to the ICU as the doors of the ambulance couldn't be open as the photographers and the journalists were blocking it and if there are emotions expressed by the members of the family at that point in time, it needs to be understood.'' ''Once I was in the ICU a very enterprising journalist dressed up as a doctor and walked in and asked me how I am feeling and I said I'm fine and she went and reported that. So it becomes a little intrusive at times at the same time it doesn't speak very well of the security of the hospital. But I would take it very light-heartedly. In fact, the management of the media company, who sent her in, was actually very proud of her and I really appreciate her guts but most of the times media has been very sensitive about such occasions.''
