Report: Iraqi Men Detained At JFK Airport File Lawsuit To Fight Trump’s Ban

Two Iraqi men were reportedly detained at JFK airport on Friday due to President Trump’s executive order; the order is since being challenged through a lawsuit filed on their behalf.

A lawsuit has reportedly been filed on behalf of two Iraqi men who were not allowed to leave the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after their arrival in the U.S. on Friday due to President Trump’s executive order temporarily banning certain immigrants, according to CNN.
The men, who were traveling separately, have been identified as Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Haider Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi -- both of whom are said to have worked with U.S. entities in the past and both of whom had legal visas to enter the country.
They were reportedly already en route to New York on Friday when Trump signed his order suspending all refugees' admission for 120 days and barring people from predominantly Muslim countries like Iran, Iraq, and Libya for 90 days.
According to the New York Times, complaints have since filed from a number of legal groups including the National Immigration Law Center which tweeted, “Our lawsuit against Trump demands release of #Refugees in transit who were detained at airports bc of Exec Order shutting door on refugees.”
The Times reports that “It was unclear how many refugees and immigrants were being held nationwide in the aftermath of the executive order.”
