Iraqi Art Student Recreates What ISIS Destroyed

by Jeff DonlanAn Iraqi teenager is recreating some of the priceless artifacts destroyed by ISIS. When jihadists overtook the ancient city of Nimrud in Iraq, they looted and destroyed the city’s statues and monuments. Ninos Thabet, an art student who studied at Mosul University, is creating miniature replicas of the historic pieces. Using clay to create the artworks, he has made over 50 statues, some of which have even been displayed in museums. He wants to send a message to the world, Nimrud is ready to rebuild their civilization.​
