Want To Grow Artificial Tissue? Start With A Cotton Candy Machine

by Jeff DonlanResearchers at Vanderbilt University have cottoned on to a unique medical tool for their research into growing artificial human tissue — a cotton candy machine. Instead of spinning sugar, they are using it to create incredibly thin polymer fibers. Those fibers, along with some gel, create a mold that replicates blood vessels, and the tissue cells grow around them. More research is needed before the process is adopted widely, but it already sounds pretty sweet!
