Scientists want to put icecaps back in the freezer

The Arctic is a lot warmer than the rest of Earth, and polar ice caps are disappearing fast. A research team proposes refreezing polar ice caps with a wind turbine. The study suggests that salvaging "first-year ice" can lead to more ice sheet growth in the summer. Machines that produce wind power would be able to pump water up to the surface so it can freeze during the winter. Thicker surface areas of ice mean less sunlight absorption by the sea, and cooler temperatures to help foster more ice growth.
