A long-married couple in New York was found dead in their Upper West Side apartment on Sunday, reports the New York Daily News.
Joyce Hope Suskind and Olaf Ringdahl, who wed in 1960, allegedly took their own lives.
The friend who allegedly discovered them lying on their bed with plastic bags on their heads reportedly said, “They always said they wanted to go together.”
Both are said to have lived incredibly satisfying lives, with Suskind making a profession of her passion for music and Ringdahl pursuing his love for photography.
Suskind suggested others do the same.
According to a piece about her published in 1998, her advice was to, “Examine your life, examine your choices. Discover what really drives you, rather than just doing what's expected of you.”
In recent years, 88-year-old Suskind’s health had been failing and she was no longer able to go out on her own.
The New York Daily News notes that "police are still trying to determine if they took any medications or drugs to ease their death."
