Real-life Hunger Games coming soon to Russia

RUSSIA — A Russian millionaire is organizing a hardcore reality show that’s basically Hunger Games in real life. Because clearly we need more violence in our lives.

The Siberian Times reports that new reality TV program Game 2: Winter will put 30 people on a remote island in Siberia’s Ob River for nine months, each with only a knife and a set of clothes. Survive and you get a $1.7 million prize.

Some 2,000 cameras will be broadcasting footage 24/7, showing people living in the wilderness, and possibly getting mauled by bears or eaten by wolves.

There’ll be a ground team and helicopters for emergencies, of course. But there’s no guarantee they’ll make it in time.

At some point, a bunch of criminals are going to be let loose on the island, and if the participants catch them, they win a prize.

The program promises absolutely no intervention in an effort to keep it real. So smoking, drinking, rape and murder are all possible. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver beforehand, absolving the show of any liability should anything happen to them. Offenses are still punishable by Russian law, and offenders will need to answer to authorities later on.

Amazingly, more than 200 people from all over the world have already signed up to go on the show. But with only 15 men and 15 women set to make the cut, it’s up to an internet vote to decide.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
