Blizzard halts football match in Iceland

A pre-season football match in Iceland was called off on Thursday after a blizzard blew into the stadium.

The referee decided to abandon the game as conditions were too dangerous to continue.

Players from Fram and Breidablik walked off in extremely poor visibility with snow and icy winds swirling around the pitch.

The Icelandic Football Association have since confirmed that, as they were leading at the time the game was called off, Breidablik were awarded a 1-0 win by default.
