Helicopters Drop Water on Wildfire Along Georgia-Florida Border

Helicopters were deployed in dousing a wildfire near the Georgia-Florida border on Monday, April 17.Authorities said the lightning-caused fire had spread more than 20,000 acres since it was first reported on April 6. The blaze, dubbed the West Mims Fire, scorched the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Florida and Georgia and Florida’s John M. Bethea State Forest and Osceola National Forest.More than 200 personnel, two helicopters and 17 fire engines were mobilised to fight the fire.
