This morning we talked to TDE’s leading lady about her highly anticipated album Ctrl, which is due out tomorrow. SZA breaks down everything from her project title, the meaning behind some of our favorite lyrics and much more.

The singer-songwriter also explains why she contemplated quitting last year over her album’s delayed release. “I had just buried somebody . . . I was just in a bad mood and I was already arguing with Punch and like asking him a bunch of questions [about her album] and he was being very vague and nothing drives me more crazy than vague answers.”

We asked SZA to describe her creative process and list where she draws inspiration from. Being that she’s a visual learner, she says that a lot of her artistry is influenced by images.
